Direct Energy donates in a big way!
UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is proud to announce that in October, Direct Energy donated 50 Hive Starter Packs to help support the mission of our hospital. Hive is a new, smart-home sister company of Direct Energy that sells clever smart home products and services. Through their products, you can control the lighting and appliances around your house, all from your smartphone or through Alexa, Google Assistant or IFTTT.
Each donated Hive Starter Pack is a $199 value and includes:
- Two Hive Active Lights
- One Hive Active Plug
- Two Hive Window or Door Sensors
- One Hive Hub
Our hospital leveraged the generous donations by using the Hive Starter Packs as prizes for the first ever HACK THIS. HELP KIDS. Hackathon for Hope. a hackathon focused on pediatric health care where individuals to interacted and engaged with the best and brightest minds. People with diverse experiences and backgrounds such as medicine, engineering, design, software development, and business worked together in teams for an action-packed 24 hours of collaboration.Participants, sponsors, and mentors take some of the most challenging health care pain points in existence and turn them in to some of the most innovative and disruptive solutions in the healthcare industry, working together to create tools and technology to help various problems in the vast field of pediatrics.
Our hospital also used a few of these gifts to give to families of our patients who attended one of our Coffee House events that took place in the hospital as fun prizes for games. Coffee House events are put on regularly at the hospital for parents and families to attend to gather with other adults who may be facing similar issues with their children. The gifts were greatly received and are being put to good use in these families’ homes.
