Prom Night at Texas Children’s Hospital!

Last Friday, April 26th, Direct Energy volunteers helped out with the 2nd Annual Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) Prom event! This event supports patients who either cannot attend their own prom due to their illness or medical treatment or who need a night of excitement with children who experience the similar challenges. Forty Five children attended the getting ready event where they were able to pick out fancy clothes and have their hair and make-up done, and over 80 patients attended the prom!

Kevin Leaver, from the Sales & Marketing team, led shift #1 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and he took a group of 13 volunteers over to TCH. The volunteers cleared and put away the remaining dresses and accessories in the “shopping area” (kids had the chance the day before to pick out their Prom dresses etc.!), before starting to set up the Prom area with balloons and decorations.
(Volunteers: Ashley Frankart, Danilo Alvarado, Amy Nuttall, Sohail Akmal, Alexandra Gleisner, Krystal Mendez, Lorna Muniz-Paz, Federico Lescano, Lubaina Munis, Minty Thomas, Hannah Taylor and Rebecca Gail)

Lacey Edgar, from the Sales & Marketing team, and Xuan Tran, from the Finance team, jointly co-led shift #3 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and they had 10 people on their shift. The team continued to set up the Prom area and the hallway leading up to the Prom room, with balloons and decorations.
(Volunteers: Louis Anderson, Grace Anderson, Deanna Sharpe, Patricia Kramer, Judy Smith, Kellie Langley, Tam Vu and Denisse Beck)

Tee Spivey, from the Legal team, took her group of 8 people to cover shift #3 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The team of volunteers continued with set up of the Prom area with balloons and decorations, and they also helped the kids get ready for Prom!
(Volunteers: Sid Watts, Brandi Dorgan, Paul Brezik, Keenya Harrold, Kelli Gunter, Lanell Howard and Lisa Louck)

Allyson LaFave, from Corporate Affairs, led shift #4 (from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.) & shift #5 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. and had 7 volunteers. During that time, volunteers added final touches to the Prom area, set up the check-in desk, helped out in the hair and make-up area getting the kids get ready for Prom, manned the Prom check in area, petted the therapy dogs, Elsa & Bailey, and had fun with the kids at the Prom! After it was all over, they all pitched in to totally clear the Prom area.
(Volunteers: Janet De La Paz, Rudy De La Paz, Bea Torres, Mary Zwick, Sandra Soliz and Anne Ruback)

It was a wonderful day (and evening) of collaboration and fun with one of our charity partners, and Direct Energy was proud to be a part of it!

Thanks to ALL the volunteers who participated in this special project! I know TCH was happy to have us!
